  I remember my Grandfather who was a CO saying;

  i was thinking of my co grandfather who passed on a few years ago.

  his wife my grandmother passed on in 99. i can remember him saying "i know after armageddon i can not be married to her but maybe we can live next to each other.

  not sure where the cult stands on this issue today.

  Pastor Russell letters?

  most of those who read my comments and posts here know i'm not a witness but a historian who writes about them.

  as my writing partner and i near completion of volume 2 of separate identity, we need scans of any letters, post cards or what have you written by russell, any of his associates or any pre-1916 adherent - no matter how insignificant they may appear.. can you helps with this?

  we also need clear scans of watch tower convention programs from that era.. i appreciate any help that comes my way.. rachael.

  This may seem simplistic but the Library of Congress has the complete set of Watchtower reprints as well as other WT publications. I went there before the internet and pulled up many WT from the 19th century to see if things I was told were true. I had visited Bethel but went to Maryland afterwards to visit "worldly" friends and I often took the underground from their place to downtown DC. It turns out a nearby congregation here in California had the complete set as well. I should have spent more time at the Smithsonian, I loved it.

  heard gave 3 talks at the convention.

  one thing i noticed rather quickly was how stuck he was to his notes.

  he rarely looked up.

  It's manuscripts all around at a DC when it comes to a talk for a literature release. No room for adlibs allowed. I did one years ago and it was a strictly manuscript proposition. Even GB who have the talk have to read it. Most of the public talks are like that as well. You're simply attending the WT study for the next year. BORING AS HELL AND JUST AS USEFUL.

  mine, in no particular order, are .... alien - a great visual film.

  the chest-bursting scene is still great to watch, no matter how many times i've seen the movie.

  The Last Days, Spanish Apocalyptic film, very very effective (Not a Bible movie).

  Defending Your Life ( I can watch it once a year, so funny.)

  Train to Busan (Korean zombie movie set on, you guessed it, a train.) The best zombie movie since Night of the Living Dead. Incredible.

  I know this is meant to be whimsical and entertaining, but I'm glad there isn't a logo for apostates. Then our individuality would become some plot against the organization that is as impersonal as JW .org is. Plus, I don't agree with everyone's gripes against the Org though I share the same goal, shut it down!

  I'll agree that your commentary on Dust in the Wind is quite sad.

  This is the saddest song in my experience. John Lennon wrote this and made the demo shortly before he was shot. Thinking of what would become of him it makes the lyric so ironic. It sort of emphasizes the truth of Bad_Wolf's choice. This song brings a tear to my eye every time I think of John's demise.

  I like the British. I guess the revolution is old news anyway. Fireworks are outlawed in my area of California, even the "Safe and Sane" ones. Fire danger is too high here for such frivolity. I will be watching a movie and drinking some sort of cold drink of the nonalcoholic kind. Health won't allow anything else.

  Last Memorial Experiences

  i'll share mine first.... i had never missed a memorial for at least a quarter of a century of my life.

  i was kind of raised to believe that missing the memorial was a sin in itself.. by 2013 memorial season, i was missing most of my meetings (even though i was still technically part of my foreign language congregation), and i had just come off the pioneer list.

  i still made plans to attend the memorial (god forbid if i missed that lol).. i knew that typically our memorials were around 9 pm, since we usually got last priority (being a foreign language hall and all).

  It was at least 12 years ago. Being a doctrine wonk, (I really devoted myself to understand the ins and outs of WT doctrine) it became clear to me that the memorial was for anointed ones. The "Great Crowd" came because it was "appropriate" for them to be onlookers. Since no covenant was made with me as a GC member, I had no guilt in not attending. It was no longer appropriate for me as a non believer.
